Successful Radar Field Testing over Lake Superior

June 2024. EMAG Technologies Inc. in partnership with Kall Morris Inc. has designed and demonstrated a proof-of-concept AESA radar system to perform rendezvous proximity operation intended for orbital space debris detection. EMAG’s engineered wideband AESA radar features back-end frequency conversion, software-defined radio, and post-processing of returned signals.
During the course of field testing in Marquette, MI, drone-held targets flying over Lake Superior were detected, and their size, distance, and speed were successfully characterized. With the implementation of this technology, “space junk” targets out to 73 km can be identified and precisely tracked.
