Embracing Forthcoming Technological Revolutions with Innovative Solutions
EMAG has identified several extraordinary opportunities in the areas of computer simulation and measurement of interactive and rapidly varying fields and waves. New modeling challenges have underscored the need for advanced simulation tools that address system-level analysis of multi-scale EM problems such as cosite interference in tactical communications systems. A thorough understanding of such problems requires hybrid EM simulation methodologies that can accommodate completely different length scales, ranging from tiny RF devices and collocated installed antennas to large vehicle structures and their surrounding environment, terrain included. EM.Cube is the first and only EM simulation tool that rigorously addresses self-consistent co-simulation of large-scale EM structures and RF circuits. EM.Cube and RF.Spice A/D together provide system-level EM-circuit analysis capability from DC to light accommodating length scales from microns to miles.
Computer simulations, however, are only useful if they can be verified and validated with reliable measured data. The direct measurement of electromagnetic fields is a very challenging endeavor as these fields can easily be disturbed by the presence of an external field probe. NeoScan is the first and only field measurement system that detects and probes the EM fields generated by RF devices and circuits and EM structures in a non-invasive manner, while providing a very large operational bandwidth and a very high spatial resolution using the same probes.
We have now developed a unique comprehensive capability of designing, understanding and controlling complex RF circuits interacting with EM fields and structures. The combination of our products together provide RF designers and test & evaluation engineers with unprecedented new insight into the inner workings and hidden complexities of high frequency devices and sensors, RF systems and massive wireless networks.

Two Decades of Innovation & Service
Our first simulation software product, EM.Picasso, was developed under funding from the US Army for a project concerned with the analysis and design of large planar phased arrays. In 1999, EMAG was selected by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) as the sole software developer of the multi-year Reconfigurable Aperture (RECAP) program. The initial funding for the development of EM.Terrano came from DARPA’s Future Combat Systems (FCS) program. These simulation tools were subsequently parallelized under a multi-year program funded by the DoD’s High Performance Computing Modernization Office (HPCMO). The integration of our simulation tools as a unified framework (EM.Cube) started in 2004 under several programs funded by the US Army and US Navy. EM.Cube was showcased for the first time in 2008 at the IEEE International Microwave Symposium (IMS) in Atlanta, GA.
In 2011, EMAG acquired Beige Bag Software Inc., a developer and supplier of analog and digital circuit simulation software since the mid 90s. This acquisition expanded our product offering to include two circuit simulation tools, B2.Spice and B2.Logic. These products were merged into B2.Spice A/D and later evolved into RF.Spice A/D. We are now able to meet most of our customers’ modeling and simulation needs through our expanded software product portfolio.
In 1999, EMAG launched Gradient LLC with a significant amount of external investment funding to develop integrated antenna systems. Subsequently, EMAG built an in-house computer-controlled anechoic chamber and acquired a wide range of advanced device characterization, measurement and fabrication tools including a 67GHz vector network analyzer, wafer probe station, wire bonding and rapid prototyping milling machines, etc. Over the years, the R&D work on integrated multifunction antennas evolved into wafer-scale micromachined phased arrays and culminated in the development of our VISAT technology. EMAG has been granted 12 US patents on integrated antennas, active phased array systems and related concepts.
In 2002, EMAG spun off Opteos Inc. to focus on the research and development of field measurement systems. Our patented electro-optic (EO) and magneto-optic (MO) probe technologies were originally conceived during the 90s at the University of Michigan’s NASA Center of Excellence for Space Terahertz Technology. The initial funding was received from the US Army to develop an all-fiber-based electro-optic mapping system. In 2004, we negotiated an exclusive license to the University of Michigan’s EO/MO field mapping technology. Opteos Inc. was fully acquired by EMAG in 2010. This acquisition paved the way for the introduction of the NeoScan field measurement system. The development of the 3rd generation NeoScan system was partly funded by the US Air Force, whereby a powerful real-time field measurement capability was implemented for evaluation of the biological and human effects of high power microwave systems.
Staying at the Forefront of RF Technology Innovation
In order to provide our customers with the best and most complete solutions, we have cultivated a large network of partners and collaborators that complement EMAG’s core capabilities and competencies. EMAG Technologies Inc. is interested in various types of teaming arrangements with small businesses, large companies and research universities to develop new technologies and products or to pursue new business opportunities such as federal government programs.
