Prototype Engineering Technician
EMAG Technologies Inc. is looking for a Prototype Engineering Technician to support the growth of the business. We are a high-tech company based in Ann Arbor, MI, that develops radio-frequency system modules and infrastructure for communication, radar, and sensing applications. The successful candidate will be a part of a vibrant team of engineers working in the areas of design, development and characterization of RF and microwave circuits and antennas. Job Description
This position involves fabrication, assembly, and test of electronic components. Specifically, it involves:
- Assembly of prototype PCBs, building cables and wire harnesses, and box building/assembly. PCB assembly may include hand assembly, outsourcing to assembly shops, and/or operation of in-house automated pick and place machine as appropriate to the project.
- Additive/subtractive prototyping of electronics enclosures, including CAD/solid modeling and operation of 3D printers, CNC routers, and basic shop tools (band saw, drill press, etc.)
- Conducting test and inspection of electronic hardware according to written test procedures, to include operation of bench test equipment (power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc).
- For the right person, responsibilities may also include procurement, inventory management, test equipment management and maintenance/service planning, etc.
Position Requirements
This position involves fabrication, assembly, and test of electronic components. Specifically, it involves:
- Associates degree in Electronics Technology or 3+ years of highly relevant experience
- Experience with surface mount PCB assembly, specifically hand soldering.
- Experience with mechanical prototyping, including with a 3D printer and CNC router (Fusion360, Solidworks, and similar)
- Familiar with basic electronics lab equipment, including bench supplies, multimeter, oscilloscope, etc
- Experience with hand assembly of cables, wire harnesses, and electronics boxes
- Experience following written test procedures and documenting test results
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly work environment
Highly Desirable Qualifications
- Basic analog and digital electronic design, including schematic and layout of power supplies, sensors, and microcontrollers/embedded code. (Altium Designer, KiCad, Cadence, LTSpice, C/C++)
- Experience automating test measurements (scripting of GPIB interfaces, LabView, Matlab/Python)
- Basic knowledge of RF systems, such as for radar and communications
- Basic knowledge of optics/photonic systems, including working with fiber optics
- Willingness to learn all of the above
